If you’re not sure how much a good exhaust design can boost engine performance, you’ll want to read up on the brilliant German engineer Walter Kaaden. Kaaden was the first person to really understand how tuning an exhaust can boost horsepower, torque, and the power band. Simply by harnessing resonance waves, he effectively ‘supercharged’ two-stroke racing motorcycles in the 1960s and dominated Grand Prix racing from 1955–1976. Now you’re Dodge Challenger is no two-stroke motorcycle but getting the most out of your power tuning still requires the right exhaust. If you’re running around on your stock exhaust manifold, your engine will never be able to breathe right. The design and dimensions of stock manifolds strangle the engine and put an upper limit on ultimate horsepower and torque. For more low-down torque, bolt on our shorties and start enjoying some serious performance. Shorty headers are also a better option for states that require emissions approval. If you’re going to the track, you might be spending more time running higher RPMs. In that case, your engine will be able to make greater use of the classic long tube headers. This type of header needs more room to fit in your car, and you’ll want to map the engine computer both to optimize performance and map out any engine check light triggered by losing the secondary O2 sensors.
