How to Install a Raxiom Digital Shift Knob on your 1979-2014 Mustang

Installation Time

30 minutes

Tools Required
  • ¼ inch Socket Wrench
  • 10mm Socket
  • Allen Wrench
  • Wire Cutters
  • Electrical Tape or Soldering Iron
  • Extra Wire

 ***For this installation it is being done on a 2013 Ford Mustang*** 


1. Begin by taking off the factory shift knob by unscrewing it counter clockwise. 


2. Once off, open up the arm rest and pull up on the plastic to pop the center console off. 


3. Unplug the wires that connect to the traction control, hazards, and trunk release. 


4. Remove the center console. 


5. Remove the plastic connectors that attaches to the sound insulation. 


6. Once removed, you can now pull out the insulation. 


7. Take the 10mm socket and socket wrench and partially remove the bolt to the bottom left of the gear shift. 


8. Place the ground (black) wire under the bolt and fasten it securely back into place. 


9. Run the positive (red) wire along the right side of the gear shift and behind the plastic panel. 


10. Attach extra wire to the positive wire by either soldering it or using electrical tape. 


11. Run the wire behind the carpet and plastic panels to the passenger side fuse box. 


12. Find a fuse that turns off with the car in order make sure the shift knob will turn off when you turn the car off. 


13. Wrap the stripped wire around one metal end of the fuse and reinstall. 


14. Reinstall the sound insulation. 


15. Plug the data cable into the shift knob and the reference box. 


16. Turn the car on and hold the set button for 5 seconds until “C” is displayed then let go of the button. 


17. Tilt the reference box until you achieve the desired color and hit the set button. 


18. Remove the adhesive and attach the reference box to a level surface. 


19. Program the gears by copying the gear that is displayed. 


20. Once you see the “A” drive 20 meters and now the gears should be programmed. 


21. Turn off the car and disconnect the data cable and remove the shift knob. 


22. Reinstall the traction control wire and its plastic connectors. 


23. Reinstall the center console, making sure to plug back in the traction control wires and make sure to run the data cable through the shift boot. 


24. Once reinstalled, plug the data cable back into the shift knob and tighten the grub screw with the Allen wrench until the shift knob is fastened securely. 


25. Turn your car back on and enjoy your newly installed shift knob.
