After the nameplate remained unused for almost 35 years, the Ford Shelby GT500 put in a triumphant reappearance at the 2005 New York International Auto Show. The GT500 became available to the public again with the 2007 to 2009 model years, the first appearing in showrooms in May 2006. Built on the fifth generation S-197 chassis, the GT500 hit the streets with more rip-roaring horsepower than ever before, inside a fiercely sleek ultramodern design. The 5.4L Modular supercharged V8 engine delivers no less than 500 horsepower, outshining all its contemporaries, while 18-inch alloy wheels and a Tremec TR-6060 6-speed manual transmission are also standard on the trims from 2007 through 2009. The engine also develops 480 ft-lbs of torque, shooting the Shelby from the starting line to 60 mph in just 4.6 seconds and galloping through the quarter-mile in 12.9 seconds. Available in both coupe and convertible variants, the MSRP of these 'Stangs varied from the 2007 GT500 coupe's $42,975 to the 2009 GT500 convertible's $47,210. The choice of interior colors is limited – black with black accents or black with red accents – but there is ample variation in the exterior colors, with black the most popular. 2007-2009 Mustang Shelby GT500s are a great choice for adding bolt-ons and aftermarket parts too, also, such as the high quality parts found on American Muscle. With the right intakes, exhausts, superchargers, and dyno tuning, this already powerful breed of Pony can be transformed into a 700+ horsepower powerhouse able to hold its own with 6th generation 'Stangs.
