The last hurrah of the Fox Body Mustang, the 1993 Cobra and Cobra R were designed on purpose to give muscle car enthusiasts a thrilling taste of good things to come with the planned launch of the 4th generation in 1994. Throbbing with power by the standards of its day, the 5.0L V8 engine cranked out 235 horsepower and 280 ft-lbs of torque, capable of launching the Cobra from a standstill to 60 mph in 5.5 seconds. Designed specifically to overawe the Pontiac Firebird and the Chevy Camaro, the Cobra's designers eked every bit of available power out of the aging V8 with a unique torque-increasing camshaft grind, GT40 cast aluminum intake manifolds, 62.5 cc milled heads offering a 9.0:1 compression ratio or slightly better, a cast aluminum intake featuring staggered ports, a 70mm mass air flow (MAF) meter in place of the standard 55mm equivalent, 24 lb/hr fuel injectors, and many other tweaks and upgrades. Externally, the 1993 Cobra Fox Body got a minor do-over, including snake badges and unique 7-spoke wheels prized to this day. Both the Cobra and its limited edition Cobra R trim are 3-door hatchbacks, though the Cobra R also features an engine oil cooler, improved Koni shocks and struts, a deleted rear seat, and 13-inch directionally vented front brake rotors. Just 4,993 Cobras were made at an MSRP of $21,578, while Cobra Rs are even rarer, with just 107 in existence with an MSRP of $26,692. All Cobra Rs came with just one factory paint color option, Vibrant Red (ES).
