Decorated everywhere with the elegantly menacing coiled snake badge, the 1994-1995 SVT Cobras gave teeth to the new line of Mustangs launching the fourth generation, following the Foxbody. Though not to be compared with the muscle today's 'Stangs bring to the table, these SVT Cobras were “plenty tough” for their own era, and still make great classic Mustangs to drive. A 5.0L EFI V8 engine spun up extra power thanks to a big Thunderbird intake manifold, generating 240 horses and 285 ft-lbs of torque. This gave the Cobra the moxie to accelerate from zero to 60 in 6.3 seconds, burning through the quarter mile in 14.5 seconds at 97 miles per hour, and pushing top speed up to 140 mph or a hair over. The Cobra rolled out of the showroom on the largest wheels fitted to a Mustang up to that date, 17x8 alloy wheels with five spokes, and used a Borg-Warner T5 5-speed manual transmission. Coming in a coupe variant costing an MSRP of $20,765 in 1994 and $21,300 in 1995, the SVT Cobra also has a convertible version priced at $23,535 and $25,605 respectively. While the coupe comes in a choice of three colors, the convertible has stock paint in just one of two colors – Rio Red in 1994 and Black in 1995. The Cobra's unique looks also include round fog lights in a custom front fascia and European reflector headlights. Dressing up a 1994-1995 SVT Cobra Mustang, restoring its original function, or giving it a jolt of thrilling new power are all possible 20 years after the fact thanks to today's premium aftermarket components, carefully selected and offered on American Muscle.
