Racing Axles

Racing Axles

The Importance of Installing Performance Axles in Your Muscle Car

When it comes to modifying a muscle car, axles are often an overlooked component. But they shouldn’t be. Sure, axles aren’t as exciting or sexy of an upgrade as popular engine, exhaust, and wheel modifications, but they’re every bit as important. Racing axles are designed to maximize the durability of the axles and, as a result, the entire drivetrain.

A quality set of performance axles are built out of high-strength materials, which makes them prepared to handle the stress and torque of a powerful engine. These axles are also designed to be far more heat-resistant than stock axles are, which makes them more reliable and durable. As a result, aftermarket axles give drivers more comfort and confidence taking their muscle car to the limit.

How to Know if Your Car Needs Aftermarket Axles

Racing axles are stronger, more durable, and more heat-resistant than OEM axles. Which means they’re far better equipped to handle the stress and rigors of an engine that’s more powerful than the stock option. So as a general rule, if you’re improving the performance of your vehicle’s engine, then you should consider improving the quality of your axles. There’s really no need to put performance axles on a vehicle with a stock engine, but as soon as you start increasing your vehicle’s power output, it’s probably time to upgrade your axles.

Can You Install Racing Axles by Yourself?

Installing new axles is a straightforward task in the garage, but it’s involved. Like all drivetrain upgrades, replacing your axles means lifting your vehicle, getting your hands dirty, and moving a few parts and tools around. If you regularly perform maintenance tasks on your vehicle at home, then you’ll probably have no problem installing new axles, and it won’t take you too long, either. If you’re new to vehicle modifications but comfortable with all your tools, this is a great task to work on. But as always, you never want to do anything that makes you uncomfortable when working on your car, so if you’re not sure, just have a mechanic replace the axles.
