The 2001-2009 Bullitt versions of the Ford Mustang bring a thrilling taste of the movies to the roads of the real world. Designed to resemble Steve McQueen's Mustang from the 1968 movie Bullitt where cinema's most renowned chase goes from Fisherman's Wharf to the Guadalupe Canyon Parkway, the 2001 Bullitt cost a $26,350 MSRP new and comes in three colors – Dark Highland Green, True Blue and Black. Dark Highland Green mimics the movie Mustang's color and is a paint tint unique to the Bullitt edition 'Stangs. Fitted out with a 265 horsepower 4.6L V8 and 17 inch aluminum wheels, the 2001 Bullitt can go from 0-60 mph in 5.8 seconds. The interior is full of retro flourishes that recall the Sixties, including pleated vinyl seat upholstery, chrome bezels, vintage fonts on the gauges, and other details. The 13 inch Brembo brakes and reworked shocks, struts, and stabilizers give the Bullitt a driving feel unlike any of the other 2001 Ponies. The 2008-2009 Bullitts keep the stealthy look, targeting reticle badges, and Dark Highland Green color. The fastback offers 0.84 Gs of lateral acceleration, plus a 5.0 second acceleration to 60 and 151 mph top speed, courtesy of a computer-assisted and supercharged 315 horsepower 4.6L SOHC V8. All of these Bullitts are great cars with a cinematic feel, but there are plenty more possibilities to explore with them, too. High quality aftermarket parts made by leading component companies, many of them based in the U.S., offer an array of 2001-2009 Bullitt parts for performance or good looks, and are available through American Muscle.
