Note: Before starting the project make sure the car is lifted properly and safely and all jack stands are in place and secure prior to going underneath of vehicle.
Removal:
1. Make sure vehicle is on level surface.
2. Engage Parking Brake.
3. Lift vehicle in air and place jack stands on the pinch welds underneath of the vehicle at the four corners. The pinch points and cut outs for the jack stand are just prior to front wheels and just after rear wheels. The safest place to lift the vehicle is using these pinch point welds. (The higher the vehicle the easier it is to work underneath of it)
4. Remove the M8 bolts using the 13 mm socket from the mid hanger brackets and remove them from the vehicle. To remove them from the frame after the bolts are removed, simply apply upwards pressure on the bracket and it will lift off of the frame. Save these hanger brackets because they will be reused with the new exhaust. (See Figure 3)
5. Loosen both clamps ahead of the resonator using the 15mm socket. There are locking tabs on each clamp that lock on to the part of the exhaust system staying on the vehicle, lift these tabs using the flat head screwdriver and slide the clamps rearward onto the exhaust piece, which you are going to remove from the vehicle. Once the clamps are removed the exhaust system will no longer be supported and will
want to fall and the stock exhaust IS HEAVY! Make sure you hold the exhaust up and are ready to remove the exhaust from the vehicle once the tabs are slid, so read the next step and do both steps together. Retain these clamps as they will be reused with the new exhaust. (See Figure 4)
6. Remove the stock catback exhaust by sliding the exhaust towards the front of the vehicle which will remove it from the rear hanger. Remove the clamps as they will be reused.
Installation:
1) Install the previously removed clamps onto the inlets of the H-pipe, see figure 5, make sure the flat side of the tabs are facing down and the locking part of the tab will be the part sliding onto the stock part of exhaust system. Install the H-pipe assembly onto the vehicle, see figure 6. DO NOT fully tighten the clamps there will need to be adjustments made later after the exhaust is fully together to make sure the whole exhaust system is centered and aligned properly.
2) Slide the 3 inch clamps provided onto the H-pipe assembly outlets. Then Install the driver’s side muffler assembly by pre-installing the mid hangar bracket, see figure 7. Install the driver’s side muffler assembly by first sliding the exhaust into the rear hanger brackets, see figure 8, and then onto the outlet of the H-pipe. Then re-install the mid hanger bracket onto vehicle by sliding them downward to have the hooks lock into the frame and then by using the previously removed M8 bolts using the 13mm socket. Repeat this step for the passenger side muffler assembly. DO NOT fully tighten the 3 inch clamps until everything is fully aligned.
3) Install both exhaust tips, DO NOT fully tighten.
4) Align the exhaust and center the tips in the rear fascia. Once everything is aligned and is centered you can tighten all the clamps. NOTE: When everything is centered, if you tighten the mid-hanger brackets first it will keep the system in line for you to tighten the other clamps. If you are able to recruit the assistance of two other people they can hold the exhaust tips centered while you tighten down the mid-hanger brackets and the rest clamps.
5) Check along the whole exhaust system making sure all the bolts are tightened, all clamps are secured and that there was no interference with any wiring, fuel lines or brake lines.
6) Make sure the work area is clear of tools and debris and then safely begin removing the jack stands and lowering the vehicle onto the ground.
