How to Install a Ford Racing GT500 Brake Cooling Shields on your 2005-2013 Mustang

  • Impact Wrench or Socket Wrench
  • Socket Wrench Extension
  • Locking Lug Key (if required)
  • 15mm Socket
  • 10mm Socket
  • Flathead Screwdriver

Please read through the instructions carefully before starting this project. Take the time to get all the materials together as well as all the safety equipment.


Tools needed:


• Hydraulic Jack
• (2) Jack Stands
• Impact Wrench or Socket Wrench
• Socket Wrench Extension
• Locking Lug Key (If Necessary)
• 15MM Socket
• 10MM Socket
• Flat-Head Screwdriver


Contents:


• (1) Right-Hand Brake Cooling Shield
• (1) Left-Hand Brake Cooling Shield
• (4) Brake Shield Bolts
• (4) Brake Caliper Mounting Bolts


Installation:


1. Start with the driver's side. Jack up the vehicle with the hydraulic jack and support with the jack stands.


2. Remove the wheel(s).


3. Remove the brake caliper mounting bolts with the socket wrench and the 15MM socket. Discard the bolts. They will not be reused.


4. Remove the brake caliper from the rotor. Do not let the brake caliper hang freely by the brake line as this may damage the brake line and/or brake caliper.


5. Remove the two (2) rotor retainer washers with the flat head screwdriver. Care must be taken when removing these as they will be reused.


6. Remove the rotor from the hub.


7. Locate and remove the three(3) dust shield mounting bolts with the socket wrench and 10MM socket. Discard these three(3) dust shield mounting bolts as they will not be reused.


8. Remove the dust shield.


9. Locate the correct new brake cooling shield and install it as shown below. Make sure the round portion of the cooling shield is pointed towards the front of the vehicle, covering the tie-rod end.


10.Tighten these bolts to 14.75 ft lbs.


11.Install the brake rotor back onto the hub.


12.Reinstall the two(2) brake rotor retaining washers back in their original locations.


13. Reinstall the brake caliper with the new supplied brake caliper mounting bolts.


14. Tighten these bolts to 85 ft lbs.


15. Install wheel back on the vehicle and tighten the lug nuts to 100 ft lbs
.
16. Perform steps 2-15 on the passenger side of the vehicle.


17. Lower the vehicle and pump the brake pedal 10 times to ensure brake pressure is present when braking on the road.


18. Congratulations on installing your new set of Ford Racing GT500 Brake Cooling Shields!
