How to Install Hurst Billet Plus Pistol Grip Handle - Automatic on your Mustang

Shop Parts in this Guide

WORK SAFELY! For maximum safety, perform this installation on a clean, level surface and with the engine turned off. Place blocks or wedges in front of and behind both rear wheels to prevent movement in either direction.

CAUTION: To avoid any possibility of bodily injury or damage to vehicle, do not attempt installation until you are confident that the vehicle is safely secured and will not move.

PARTS

1. Remove the chrome bezel by prying up on the front to release the two locking clips.

2. Starting from the front of the shift indicator, pry up to release the forward locking clips. Then work your way down the side to release the remaining ones.

3. Raise the shift indicator high enough to unplug the wire harness from the bottom of the shift indicator.

CAUTION: With the engine off, the emergency brake set and the front and rear wheels blocked, move the shift handle back far enough to gain access to the two Philips screws that bolt the shift handle to the lower stick.

4. Remove the two Phillips screws then pull up on the shift handle to remove it.

Note: The shift boot and gear select indicator are attached to the shift handle.

5. Release the locking tabs that secure the shift boot and gear select indicator to the shift handle.

6. Remove the shift handle.

7. The shift boot ring is glued to the shift boot and must be removed. Carefully peel the two apart. The ring will not be used moving forward.

8. With the shift boot inverted, orientate the Hurst pistol grip handle in the correct position and slide it through the boot as far as it will go.

9. Zip tie the shift boot to the pistol grip. There is a groove machined into the handle that is intended for the zip tie to lock into.

10. Locate the two threaded holes on the factory lower stick. The Hurst pistol grip has two holes machined into it that line up with the factory holes.

11. With the shift boot still inverted slide the Hurst pistol grip down over the lower stick and secure it in place using the two provided set screws.

12. Put the shifter back into the Park position. Plug the wire harness back into the shift indicator and snap it back into place.

13. Reinstall the chrome bezel.
