How to Install a Trunk Release Button Kit on your 2005-2009 Mustang

Installation:
1. Remove glove box by undoing 4 hex screws using ratchet and 7mm socket. (Optional but highly recommended) With the screws removed just open the glove box and it will all come out.

2. Inspect behind the drilling area. There should be a metal bracket.
3. Mark out button location.
4. Drill a pilot hole. Then with a ¾” bit or stepped drill bit drill your hole, a bit extender can be helpful. Make sure not to drill over ¾” because the button us barely bigger than your hole.

5. Clean the hole with a knife, file or sandpaper if needed.
6. Thread the wires through the hole.
7. Ground the short wire on one of the 10mm bolts nearby that is grounding another wire under the glovebox.

8. Run the long wire across the glove box and down through the side trim.

9. Pull back to remove door trim and pull away carpeting using the white tab to expose the black wire protector. There are gaps in the protector that can be spread open. Make sure and use the first opening since there is not much extra wire provided.

10. Open black wire protector and locate the white wire with pink stripe.

11. Use the scotch lock to fasten long wire to the white and pink wire. Then wrap the scotch lock in electrical tape.

12. Connect the wires to the button and test the button to make sure it works. It does not matter which terminals the wires are connected to.

13. Push the button through the hole.
14. Use zip ties to secure the wires out of the way of the glove box.
15. Replace trim and glove box and enjoy your new trunk button.
