      Description

Understanding Your Charger’s Timing Chain Tensioner. The Timing Chain Tensioner is an integral component of your Charger’s timing chain system, tasked with the important duty of holding pressure against the chain to prevent skipping and breakage. The tensioner consists of an alloy body and cylinder, mechanically actuated with a spring during low-oil pressure conditions such as a cold start and hydraulically actuated with oil during normal operating conditions. The piston's end is a plastic chain guide that serves as the contact point between the tensioner and the chain, preventing damage and excessive noise during regular operation.

Replacing A Damaged Timing Chain Tensioner. Unlike timing belt setups, timing chain systems were initially designed as a zero-maintenance, fail-proof timing solution. While chains don’t tend to break, the guides and tensioners of the timing chain system often do, requiring a replacement before causing catastrophic engine failure. In an interference engine, such as your Charger’s 3.6L V6, the pistons and valves occupy the same space during different times. However, when a timing chain tensioner malfunctions and timing skips, the pistons and valves can make contact, potentially leading to irreparable damage. If you’ve been experiencing the tell-tale symptoms of a damaged timing chain tensioner, including excessive rattling from the timing area, a rough idle, or a no-start condition, consider replacing your Charger’s primary timing chain tensioner.

Direct-Fit, OE-Design. This timing chain tensioner is manufactured to the exact specifications of your Charger’s OE part for a fit, finish, and functionality that meets or exceeds that of the original. Additionally, this tensioner is designed to install directly in place of the original without any modifications or additional hardware for a straightforward repair.

Warranty. A 12-month, 12,000-mile warranty protects this product from manufacturing defects.

Application. This Charger Timing Chain Tensioner fits all 2011-2018 Dodge Chargers equipped with the 3.6L V6 engine.
