Factory Safety. In 1969, Dodge put simple reflectors on the sides of their vehicles. It might just be a coincidence that in the 1970 model year, the debut year for the Challenger, side markers were paired with light bulbs to serve a function as a turn signal. Since then, these have been a fundamental part of the Challenger's ability to inform other drivers where the car is going. By leaving yours cracked and faded, you might as well embrace the poor safety standards that were in place over half a century ago.
Save Yourself the Headache. If your concern for safety isn't enough motivation, the law is. You can fail a safety inspection and even land a citation if your side markers aren't up to snuff. Replacing them when necessary is the best way to save yourself the frustration.
Genuine Mopar. You may be tempted to save a few bucks and go with the cheapest side markers possible. Why? Doing so only hurts the vehicle's resale value. The fit and finish are bound to be off, and that's something dealers are sure to take note of. Don't expect car collectors to be any more forgiving. Going with genuine Mopar replacement parts is the best way to give yourself a dog in the fight when you're ready to cash in on that classic.
