Understanding Coil Packs

Coil packs for muscle cars play an important role in keeping your car engine running smoothly. Typically, they're found in multiples with a number that varies based on the number of valves your engine has. Your coil packs are important because they multiply the voltage from the battery in order to deliver a power supply powerful enough to ignite fuel in the cylinders by making a spark at the spark plug. While these aren't found on some classic muscle cars, if you’re working on a resto-mod or planning on swapping out an old engine you’ll likely need a coil pack.

 

When your coil packs begin to fail you'll encounter a lot of problems that may start small like a rough idle or a loss of power.
