George G Zinc Yellow '02 GT

I got my first Mustang in 1993 and I’ve owned seven Mustangs in total; a 1991 5.0 LX Hatchback, a 2000 GT, a 1998 Cobra, a 2010 GT, a 2002 GT (Mineral Grey), a 2000 V6 and my current ride, a 2002 GT (Zinc Yellow). When my current ride found me, I was looking for a clean 99-04 to use as a daily driver. I looked at 3 cars in one day and this one was the cleanest, had the lowest miles, and was priced the lowest too…but it was bright yellow. I never owned a yellow car before so I decided to take a chance and go for it! So when I started modding the car, I decided to go with as much black as possible to break up the yellow. I added a shortened AM rocker stripe (trimmed to 2.5 inches top to bottom) above the beltline and replaced the “GT” badge with a “Ford” oval emblem, for a different look. All in all, it came out great and I was very happy with the overall visual result. Evidently, the company liked it too, as they asked me to put the car on display at #AM2018 at the Bama Performance booth. It was a dream come true to be asked to display my car at our show!!!

My life has always involved cars. My Dad drag raced up until the time I was born, and my Mom spent lots of time at the local dragstrips while she was pregnant with me. Yes, the sound of high compression V8’s and the smell of tire smoke must have had an effect on me. I spent countless hours as a young child listening to my Dad’s stories about the over 40 cars he owned in his lifetime; which ones he regretted selling and which were the fastest or coolest. I also had a HUGE bucket of HotWheels and Matchbox cars which were part of a daily play routine while watching TV shows like Speed Racer. My Parents and Grandparents would always point out the accurate car sounds I created during my car play time. As I got a bit older, I could regularly be seen reading HOTROD, Car Craft and assorted other car magazines during the 1970’s and 80’s. I loved the various customs, project cars and engine swaps detailed in the pages of those magazines. But I especially enjoyed the amazing car drawings of Steve Stanford and Duane Kuchar, and I would imagine driving the streetmachines depicted in their artwork. My High School years were spent cruising the local hangouts, doing a bit of street racing, but most importantly, learning how to get my cars to look like the cars I saw in the magazines. I’m now 50 years old and I’m still enjoying my car hobby, still striving to drive a cool car that has the right look, stance and performance for my daily driving needs. And…I love it when people see me cruising and they tell me my designs look great!
